Manchester United’s attacking rebuild is underway. Following the near-completion of Matheus Cunha’s £62.5 million move, attention has now turned to Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh, a player who made a significant impression at Old Trafford earlier this year.
According to Stretty News, “Amorim’s side ‘want’ Minteh and are ‘keen to sign’ the 20-year-old in a big summer deal.” His name has joined a shortlist that also features Bryan Mbeumo and Rayan Cherki, but complications around those deals have made Minteh a more tangible option.

With personal terms already agreed, Cunha is expected to become the first arrival of the Amorim era. But the manager wants more — particularly in attack. Stretty News states “United recruitment chiefs have been left ‘excited’ by several aspects of Minteh’s game, most notably his ‘explosive speed’ and ‘final touch’.”
Minteh, who operates predominantly on the right flank but also suits a dual No 10 system, “tormented United during Brighton’s 3-1 away win at Old Trafford in January, scoring the opening goal and brilliantly setting up Kaoru Mitoma for his team’s second.” That performance didn’t go unnoticed.
United see Minteh as an ideal foil for Cunha in a 3-4-2-1 shape, with the ability to cut inside from the right and link play in central areas. His technical confidence, flair, and physical dynamism align with Amorim’s preference for pace and verticality in the final third.
While Brighton are tough negotiators, having paid £30m to sign Minteh from Newcastle only last summer, United are “keeping tabs” on his situation closely. As always with Brighton, the price tag will be high, but so could be the potential payoff.

Alternative targets are proving problematic. Mbeumo looks increasingly likely to end up at Newcastle, while Manchester City have entered concrete talks for Lyon’s Rayan Cherki, reducing United’s leverage in either negotiation.
Additionally, United’s interest in Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen suggests a broader attempt to test the Seagulls’ resolve across multiple positions. Amorim may see Verbruggen as a viable replacement for Andre Onana, but the club hierarchy reportedly prefer to prioritise investment in attack and midfield first.
This is the sort of recruitment United fans have been craving: fast, proactive, and guided by a manager with a clear tactical vision. Amorim seems to know what he wants, and Minteh’s emergence on the shortlist is no accident. That performance at Old Trafford stuck with many of us: pace, power and composure. He was a constant threat.
What’s exciting about this link is that it feels modern. Minteh fits the type of player profile we’ve seen thrive in Europe: high ceiling, dynamic movement, direct attacking instincts. We’ve spent too many windows chasing reputation over fit. This feels different.
Of course, Brighton don’t sell cheap. But if we’ve already backed Amorim with the Cunha signing, why stop there? If the club believe Minteh could be an elite-level creator or wide forward in this system, then it’s a risk worth taking.
The thought of Minteh and Cunha buzzing around defences, supported by a refreshed midfield, is exactly the kind of image we need to believe in right now. It’s not about returning to the top overnight, it’s about building a team that can grow and excite. Minteh feels like a step in that direction.
