Man United: Katie Zelem talks importance of Arsenal win ahead of Old Trafford return | OneFootball

Manchester United captain Katie Zelem believes the comeback win over Arsenal has signalled their ambitions ahead of their return to Old Trafford on Saturday.

Last time out, Marc Skinner’s side hit two late goals at the Emirates to flip the title race on its head and hand them a chance climb into first place with a win over Aston Villa this Saturday afternoon.

Man United confidence soaring ahead of Old Trafford

Following the huge result, Zelem admitted the team is riding on a wave of confidence ahead of the game.

“We knew there was a lot of talk around not beating the top three teams,” said the United skipper.

“That’s something we’ve obviously previously struggled with a little bit. This year feels different. It feels like we have a whole new energy in the team. We’ve brought in some unbelievable players.

“Coming from behind to beat Arsenal may have caused some heart attacks, but actually it helped us and showed us that we can come from behind, no matter who the opposition is. It shows we have great character and resilience in the team.

“Externally it definitely sets out a stamp — but also internally it gives us the belief going forward.”

A dyed-in-the-wool Manchester United fan, Zelem admits she can’t wait to walk out at Old Trafford again this weekend, with a bumper home crowd expected to cheer them on against Carla Ward’s Villa.

“First of all, being from Manchester and supporting Manchester United — it is amazing to play at Old Trafford. It’s one of the best stadiums in world football. There’s no bigger advertisement for women’s football than to be playing at a huge stadium, with a great atmosphere.

“After the Arsenal game, we’ve shown what we’re all about. We are hoping to see as many fans as possible.”

However, while she admitted playing on the hallowed turf is a pleasure, she is also proud of the fortress they have created at regular home ground Leigh Sports Village.

“We pride ourselves on making LSV a fortress. It’s something we feel strongly about.

“I think if we did eventually ever move to Old Trafford that then becomes our new home. Right now, we just take it step by step. We’ve got a huge occasion playing there on Saturday but it’s another game where we are looking to take three points.”

Manchester United face Aston Villa at Old Trafford this Saturday (December 3rd) with kick-off scheduled for 12:30pm GMT.
