Manchester United have confirmed they are ready for when supporters are allowed to return to Old Trafford after a government announcement on Monday outlined plans to get fans back into stadiums.
Supporters will return in limited numbers based on which Tier each venue in a specific location is placed in after lockdown.
As reported by the Daily Mail, the government will allow up to 4,000 fans in Tier 1 areas back into stadiums when the UK lockdown is lifted on December 2.
For Tier 2, the number of fans permitted will halve to 2,000, and there will still be a ban on attending sporting venues for those in Tier 3.
It is unclear how many supporters could attend games at Old Trafford but an announcement detailing which Tier each region is in is expected on Thursday.
“In Tiers 1 and 2 spectator sports and business events will be free to resume inside and outside with capacity limits and social distancing.” Prime Minister Boris Johnson said, as quoted by the Mail.
United fans have not been inside the Theatre of Dreams since the memorable 2-0 derby victory over Manchester City in March.
And the club has released an official statement on Monday’s announcement on their website:
“We welcome today’s announcement from the Government and we reiterate that we are ready to welcome fans back to Old Trafford, as soon as it is safe to do so.
