Manchester United will be prioritising a move for a striker this summer in the next phase of Erik ten Hag’s revolution at Old Trafford, having put strengthening the midfield at the top of his to-do list last summer.

That area of the pitch is still being explored in the market but signing a striker will be Ten Hag’s first priority, with Wout Weghorst expected to return to Burnley at the end of this season.

Harry Kane has been named as a target this summer but Victor Osimhen, the Napoli striker, is believed to be among one of the club’s top targets as well.

Osimhen is the top goalscorer in Serie A and has become one of Europe’s hottest properties this season as he continues to lead the way in Napoli’s hunt for the Scudetto.

Osimhen has two years remaining on his contract, which puts Napoli in a strong position at the negotiating table this summer and they have now flexed their muscles in the most recent development.

According to Italian outlet Il Mattino, via the Daily Mail, Napoli have hit interested clubs, which includes United, with a stunning £150m asking price this summer.

As per the report, Osimhen is open to joining United but there are fears that the Old Trafford club could be put off by the astronomical fee Napoli are asking for.

A £150m transfer would see Osimhen become the most expensive signing at United, surpassing the £89m arrival of Paul Pogba in 2016.

Last week, Osimhen addressed speculation surrounding his future, admitting that he did not know what was going to happen and hinting that he is keeping all doors open.

The Nigeria international has previously admitted that he would like to play in the Premier League but if the reports from Italy are to be believed, it’s difficult to envisage any club meeting Napoli’s asking price.

Kane, who is five years older than Osimhen, has just one year remaining on his contract at Tottenham but a move for the England star comes with the complications of dealing with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.
