According to transfer news from the Sun, Barcelona are ready to sacrifice Lionel Messi to go all out for Manchester United target Erling Haaland.

Though the Catalan giants have a debt of over £1bn, club president Joan Laporta is keen to sign Erling Haaland. Lionel Messi’s contract expires at the end of the season but they are not keen to spend their resources on a 34-year-old player.

Barcelona have earmarked £109m for Erling Haaland, who is also a Manchester United target.

Manchester United have their striker requirements but that was addressed to an extent when Edinson Cavani signed a new deal. Nevertheless, Erling Haaland has been linked with Manchester United.

Barcelona’s decision does come as a blow to the Red Devils. Haaland is the next big thing in football and has been prolific despite his young age of 20. Rated at £150m, Haaland is a highly sought-after player.

While it is important for us to not miss out on the chance to sign the next gen superstar, we should also be wary of not getting caught in a bidding war.

Given the financial climate amidst the Coronavirus pandemic, it is imperative that we use the funds wisely. There are other areas of the squad to be reinforced, hence, spending big on one player doesn’t sound like a good plan.

Solskjaer has other headaches to solve and any move for Erling Haaland can now be put on hold.
