Transfer News: Manchester United receive boost as AC Milan reach impasse in contract negotiations with Franck Kessie

According to the latest transfer news Calciomercato (h/t Sports Mole), contract talks between AC Milan and Franck Kessie have broken down amidst the player being linked to Manchester United.

The Red Devils are facing somewhat of an issue in their midfield as they could need to bring in a new player next summer. Paul Pogba is facing an uncertain future at Old Trafford and could leave at the end of this season amidst interest from Real Madrid.

Nemanja Matic will turn 34 next year and shall also enter the final year of his contract next summer. Donny van de Beek has fallen down the pecking order at the club and could also leave soon.

This then leaves Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with only Scott McTominay and Fred in the centre of the pitch. With the duo largely limited in their output, other midfield options are being targeted with one of them being Kessie.

The AC Milan star has been a revelation for the Italian outfit since he made the move to the San Siro in 2017. The 24-year-old has knocked in 31 goals in 188 appearances from central midfield and was a key part of the San Siro outfit finishing in the Top 4 of Serie A last season.

However, he may now depart Italy as he has a little over 6 months on his current contract. Milan are keen to agree on an extension, but talks are now thought to have reached an impasse.

While the 7-time European Champions are still said to be relaxed over the situation, they are well aware that Kessie could enter into pre-contract talks with foreign clubs in January or even secure a cut-price transfer to any of the interested clubs.

Given that United could use an energetic midfielder like the Ivorian, securing a transfer for the midfielder would be a clever coup, regardless of whether they want a summer move or a winter deal.
