Borussia Dortmund hand Manchester United a ‘take it or leave it’ offer for Jadon Sancho

According to talkSport (h/t Daily Mail), German giants Borussia Dortmund have handed Manchester United an ultimatum to get the Jadon Sancho deal over the line.

The Red Devils have been long-time admirers of the 21-year-old. Despite numerous opportunities, we are yet to strike a deal that could have seen the English international don the famous red jersey.

United do appear to be more serious this summer than last time and made an improved £75m offer for the player last week. Dortmund rejected the move and have now laid bare what is needed for us to get the deal over the line.

According to the report, the Germans are seeking £77m plus add-ons for their star man. More so, they want any deal to be completed before July 23. Dortmund are set to begin their pre-season camp around this time and are keen to avoid any distractions ahead of the new campaign.

The player, for his part, is not too fussed about his situation. He is currently with the England team at the Euros but has surprisingly been unable to get a game for the Three Lions. Whether he plays a part in the final group game against the Czech Republic remains to be seen.

What is the hold-up?

Speaking on the Football Terrace Podcast (h/t Express), Eurosport’s Dean Jones had stated that Manchester United will not make a bid of over £80m for the player. Whether this is also inclusive of bonuses remains unclear.

The Red Devils have had the whole of last summer and a year since to work out a deal for Sancho. The fact that we are yet to reach an agreement shows a lack of initiative to get the deal over the line. One cannot blame Dortmund for losing patience and declaring an ultimatum. If United do end up missing out on Sancho, we have nobody but ourselves to blame.

The Germans appear to be ready to sell the English ace and United are aware of what it will take to land him. The fact that they are willing to hold out over a relatively small amount is worrying. It would appear we have learned little from our mishaps in the last few windows.
