According to The Mirror, Manchester United are growing increasingly confident of signing Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho in the current transfer window.
The Red Devils had an initial £67m bid for the player turned down. Further talks have since gone well and they are now confident of landing their man. Doing so would bring to an end the saga that has rumbled on for a year now.
Sancho for his part is ready for a new challenge and is set to quit Dortmund this summer. Having left Manchester as a promising youth in 2017, he will return to the city now as a star. One of the best young players in world football, he has the makings of a world-beater.
According to the report, Sancho expects his move to Old Trafford to be completed this summer. This will permit Dortmund to hold onto Erling Haaland for another season. The Norwegian is also on United’s radar but the scent has gone cold of late.
As far as the deal goes, Dortmund is keen to receive the majority of the cash up front for Sancho with a number of add-ons included. Just what compromises both teams will come to remains to be seen.
Sancho had provisionally agreed on personal terms with United last summer. This will be an added boost to negotiations, with just the transfer fee and structure set to be ironed out.
Bringing in Sancho will address the weakness at the right-wing, providing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with more ammo going into next season. It could also potentially pave the road for Mason Greenwood to be shifted to the centre-forward position.
Dortmund are keen to get a deal wrapped up by the end of July. Despite the Euros, United have ample time to work out a deal with Dortmund. With personal terms already agreed, Sancho’s time with England at the Euros should not prove to be a hindrance.
With the deal having progressed so far, all United now need to do is to see it through. The sooner they do it the better.
