Juan Mata has reportedly been offered the chance to stay at Manchester United next season, but will need to sacrifice a huge chunk of his wages in order to extend his stay at the club. The midfielder was set to be out of contract this summer, but was absent from the clubs list of released players.

Mata has been used sporadically by Solskjaer and is likely being kept around as an emergency option or due to his positive influence in the dressing room. But new reports claim that the Spaniard will need to reduce his wages to stay.

That’s according to the Daily Star, who claim that he has been offered a new one-year deal at the club but with a whopping 40% pay cut.

Currently at £170,000 per week, it is reported that the new offer comes with a £100,000 per week package, highlighting that the club are ready to combat the high wage will at the club.

Mata, 33, has been linked with a move back to Spain but having spent the last 7 years of his life at Manchester United, the former Valencia and Chelsea player could be tempted to stay around.
