Transfer News: Manchester United face competition from PSG for Kieran Trippier

According to France Football via Mundo Deportivo (h/t The Sun), French giants Paris Saint-Germain are set to challenge Manchester United for Atletico Madrid star Kieran Trippier.

The Ligue 1 side are eyeing Inter Milan’s Achraf Hakimi as a priority this summer. However, it would appear that Chelsea have the advantage when it comes to landing him. This could very well see PSG turn their attentions to Trippier instead. PSG should have no problems paying the £43m needed to land the English internal. Admittedly, a small fortune for a player who is now 30. (h/t The Sun)

Trippier, for his part, appears keen to join Manchester United. The Red Devils will, however, not bid more than £20m. Whether they will change their stand in the weeks to come remains to be seen. (h/t The Sun)

PSG are short in the position following Alessandro Florenzi’s return to AS Roma. Trippier is an experienced player capable of impressing at both ends of the pitch. His added prowess on set-pieces is another point in his favour.

United’s initial bids were rejected last week with Atletico seeking more for their star man. While there is no argument that Trippier will offer the Red Devils squad something different, there exists the possibility that we may be priced out of a move for him.

Having played for both Burnley and Tottenham Hotspur, Trippier is no stranger to the English game. This should hold him in good stead once he completes his switch to Old Trafford. The chances of that happening, however, look unclear.

Trippier is also a proven performer at the international level, playing a key role in the England side that made the World Cup semi-finals in Russia three years ago. He started the Three Lions Euro opener against Croatia, a match that they won 1-0.
