Manchester United representatives have reportedly held talks with Xavi Hernandez about the possibility of becoming manager if they part company with Erik ten Hag.

The Daily Mail claims that intermediaries have contacted the Spanish boss twice in the last few months.

Xavi has made it clear that he doesn’t want to coach in Spain again, which means he could be tempted to replace Ten Hag in Manchester.

The 44-year-old has been out of a job since being sacked by Barcelona last summer after he expressed doubts about the squad.

Xavi took over as manager in November 2021 and led them to La Liga title success in his first full season.

Performances deteriorated last term, and he announced his decision to leave at the end of the campaign, only to perform a U-turn.

However, the Spaniard’s comments about the squad and the club’s financial crisis ultimately led to his dismissal.

Ten Hag has little time to save his job

There has been plenty of speculation regarding Erik ten Hag’s future at Manchester United.

Many people expected him to be sacked during the international break, but he survived and led his side to a 2-1 win over Brentford last weekend.

However, his job at Old Trafford is far from safe, and he must deliver some impressive results over the next few weeks to avoid being sacked.

The Red Devils will face Fenerbahce in the Europa League on Thursday before visiting West Ham United in the Premier League on Sunday.
