Manchester United identify Swedish international Alexander Isak compared to Zlatan Ibrahimovic

According to The Daily Star, Manchester United are keeping tabs on Real Sociedad’s 21-year-old striker Alexander Isak, who has been compared to Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The Swedish international is coming off an excellent season for the Spaniards, winning the La Liga Young Player of the Year for the 2020/21 season. He made 34 appearances in the Spanish top-flight last season, scoring 17 goals and making two assists. (h/t Transfermarkt)

The youngster, however, does not feature at the top of the Red Devils wishlist. He is however seen as an option to fall back to if they cannot land their first-choice forward signings.

Despite Edinson Cavani extending his stay at United, the club can do with another striker to lead the line. At 34, Cavani cannot be expected to start week in week out and will need to be managed to last the whole season.

Anthony Martial, meanwhile, remains as inconsistent as ever while Mason Greenwood can be considered too young to shoulder the burden alone. It comes as no surprise that we have hence been linked with moves for both Erling Haaland and Harry Kane, two of the best strikers in the world at this moment in time.

However, neither player will come cheap, demanding United to pay a king’s ransom to land them. It is only natural that we don’t put all our eggs in one basket.

Isak is far from the finished prodct. The 21-year-old can be classified as an unpolished diamond with high potential. Despite his age, he is already a full international with Sweden and has already won 23 caps for them, scoring five goals. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is not getting any younger and the Swedes are crying out for a new hero. Whether Isak can be that man remains to be seen. Provided he does progress as expected, United will be doing themselves a massive favour by grabbing him now before he hits it big.

Isak’s potential is clear for all to see. After all not many players get compared to Ibrahimovic. Isak featured against United in both legs of our Europa League clash against Sociedad last season. The fact that he failed to make much of an impact shows that there is still work to be done.
