Transfer News: Manchester United keen on January move for Leicester City star Wesley Fofana

According to the latest transfer news on But! Football Club (h/t The Express), Manchester United are looking to get a deal over the line for Leicester City star Wesley Fofana in January.

The 20-year-old was signed by the Foxes last summer and produced a magnificent partnership alongside Caglar Soyuncu as it looked like the King Power outfit was surely going to make it to the Top 4. Although they failed to do so, they did end up lifting the FA Cup in May.

Fofana made 38 appearances across all competitions for the club last season, but fate had something else planned for the centre-back this season.

Wesley Fofana to make the switch to Old Trafford in January?

The defender suffered a knee ligament injury in pre-season against Villarreal and has not featured in a competitive game this term. However, despite all of this, Manchester United are now interested in procuring a deal for the youngster.

Although the Red Devils added 4-time Champions League winner Raphael Varane to their squad this summer, the club have not stopped conceding goals at the back. Fofana was on United’s transfer list last summer as well but were pipped by Leicester to the star’s signing.

But the Manchester-based outfit is now ready to get a deal over the line in January and shore up their defence.

While the 13-time Premier League champions could try to do so, there will be obstacles in this deal. Newcastle United are also eager to secure the Frenchman’s signature, while the 20-year-old could also command a hefty fee, given that his contract expires in 2025.

But with the former Saint Etienne man expected to return to fitness by 2022, United could go all out to agree on a deal for the centre-half as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to compete for trophies this season.
