Manchester United have suffered a massive injury blow with Harry Maguire set for a spell on the sidelines.

The 31-year-old has been one of the most consistent players for United this campaign.

He was on the verge of an Old Trafford exit last summer. A deal was agreed with West Ham United but Maguire opted to stay.

Maguire was stripped of the captaincy but he showed great resilience and fought his way back into the team.

He started the campaign as the fifth-choice centre-back option but has been United’s most consistent defender this term.

His injury will pile more misery on manager Erik ten Hag. Casemiro has partnered with Maguire in the heart of the defence due to several injuries in the backline.

Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof, Willy Kambwala, Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia are out injured. Jonny Evans was also sidelined, but he returned to training last week.

He is expected to feature against Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Monday night.

Maguire’s injury means Evans is the only fit centre-back at Ten Hag’s disposal. Casemiro will have to continue playing as a centre-back.

The England international has been in good form recently, scoring crucial goals against Coventry City and Sheffield United.

The Red Devils will hope he will be available for the FA Cup final clash with Manchester City later this month.
