Manchester United could try to tempt Chelsea in a player-plus-cash deal to sign Mason Mount this summer.

The 24-year-old has agreed personal terms, according to several reports, with United to join Erik ten Hag’s side, with the transfer fee the final part to be agreed before a deal can be finalised.

Chelsea’s valuation of Mount is claimed to be in excess of £70 million, with some reports suggesting it’s as high as £85 million, while the Red Devils price the England international at around £55 million.

Chelsea’s new policy is not to allow players to enter the final year of their deals and a decision over Mount’s future is set to be made in the coming weeks.

Newly-appointed head coach Mauricio Pochettino wants to keep hold of Mount, but there is growing expectation he will move to Manchester if a transfer fee can be agreed between the two sides.

With there being disparity between the two clubs’ valuations, Charlie Wyett of The Sun claims United could be ready to include Harry Maguire as part of the deal to sign Mount.

It’s claimed United value Maguire, who has fallen out of favour under Ten Hag, is valued at £30 million.

Chelsea are unlikely to accept Maguire as makeweight due to their defensive options. Kalidou Koulibaly, Wesley Fofana, Cesar Azpilicueta, Thiago Silva, Benoit Badiashile, Trevoh Chalobah and Levi Colwill are Chelsea’s options at centre-back currently, with the Blues likely to want to reduce the figure rather than increase it.

Pochettino is overseeing an overhaul in west London as he looks to reduce the bloated squad ahead of Chelsea’s return to pre-season at the beginning of July.

Joao Felix and Denis Zakaria will depart when their loan deals expire. and negotiations are ongoing with AC Milan for Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
