Manchester United coaching staff worried about the development of Aaron wan-Bissaka

According to The Athletic (Subscription Required) [h/t The Metro], Aaron wan-Bissaka has caused a sign of concern amongst the Manchester United coaching staff due to his lack of progress in the attacking phase of the game.

The Englishman was signed from Crystal Palace for a hefty fee of £50million in 2019 and proved to be a gem of a signing initially. In the last two seasons, his defensive output has ensured that the Red Devils finish in the Top 4, while his fitness levels have also allowed him to play non-stop.

However, the coaching staff at Old Trafford are now worried about his development. Wan-Bissaka is an incredible defender and is one of the best in the business during 1v1 duels. He seldom lets players past him, however, even he could not do a lot when Liverpool toyed with United on Sunday.

Regardless, the cause for concern is regarding the defender’s abilities in the attacking phase of the game. While Luke Shaw does his fair share of attacking as well as defending, his fellow countryman cannot do the same on the right flank.

The coaches have held numerous 1v1 sessions with the right-back, but the progress is thought to be slow, and there are doubts over his ‘application’, both in-game and training sessions.

Kieran Trippier was targeted by the Old Trafford outfit this summer as the full-back was also willing to make the move. However, Atletico Madrid remained stern on their £40million asking price of the former Tottenham man.

The Manchester-based club only valued the English international at £15-18million, courtesy of which a deal never transpired.

However, the onus will now be on the 23-year-old, as he must convince the coaches at the club that he can perform both roles on the pitch and deliver a sound dividend on their massive investment in him.
