Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella is quickly becoming a sought-after target for Premier League clubs, with Manchester United and Manchester City now in the race for his signature.

According to Calciomercato, the Manchester clubs are set to go head to head for the Italian midfield maestro, with Liverpool also in the mix.

The Premier League trio are gearing up for what is set to be a frantic summer transfer window and have already started identifying potential targets to reinforce their midfield.

Man United are in the market for a new midfielder with Marcel Sabitzer’s long-term future uncertain, having joined on a short-term loan deal from Bayern Munich in January.

The Austria international has been impressive for Erik Ten Hag’s side, but it remains to be seen if the club will look to make his stay permanent.

However, they have expressed an interest in Barella, but any deal for the Italian will depend on how the club’s potential takeover pans out.

Man City are one of three clubs, including Liverpool and Real Madrid, who are major contenders to sign Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham next summer.

The Cityzens are gearing up for the departure of Ilkay Gundogan, whose contract runs out at the end of the season.

Bernardo Silva could also be on the move, with Barcelona holding a long-term interest in the Portuguese playmaker, meaning City need to sign a midfielder.

While their priority remains Bellingham, the club’s ongoing legal issues could scupper any deals for the England international, and Barella could prove a more achievable target for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Liverpool are also keen on Barella as an alternative to Bellingham, with the Reds preparing for a midfield revamp next summer.

Barella is a key figure for Inter, who will be reluctant to let him leave, but interest in the midfielder means they could be set for a big payday.

Having previously slapped a huge €75 million asking price on Barella, the Nerrzzuri insist they will accept nothing less than €80m for their prized asset.
