Given Barcelona’s financial crises, staying competitive in the transfer has come as a considerable challenge. More so when their rivals Real Madrid are making such huge strides. Joan Laporta has found the best possible way out of the situation, though, by eyeing Bosman moves for players whose contract ends this June.

He followed this trend in 2021 as well, signing Eric Garcia, Memphis Depay, Dani Alves, and Sergio Aguero for zilch in transfer fees. However, it looks like Barcelona will be struck with karma this season as Ousmane Dembele prepares to leave for free this summer.

The Frenchman has rejected all contract advances made by Barça, demanding a net salary of nearly €40 million. According to Fichajes, there are two teams in advanced negotiations with the winger; namely Manchester United and Juventus.

The right-wing spot has been a chink in the armour for United for several years now. Jadon Sancho was signed from Borussia Dortmund to cover this void but has failed to adapt to life in the Premier League so far.

Dembele could serve as the perfect solution for the Red Devils. He is quite ambidextrous and is comfortable playing on either wing. Further, it could help them bring the best out of Sancho, who looks much more comfortable on the left.

Juventus, on the other hand, are probably in a much deeper hole. They failed to replace Cristiano Ronaldo adequately enough in the summer and have now lost Federico Chiesa to a season-long ACL injury.

Further, Alvaro Morata could be on his way out either this window or next. Barça have been strongly linked to the Spanish striker, and if he does not switch over to the Catalan capital this month, his exit is given after his loan ends in summer.

While Dembele has not had the best tenure (or season) with the garnet or blue, his profile is invaluable to Xavi. The manager was, however, criticised by the World Cup winner’s agent, who implied that his client’s treatment after recovering from COVID was in poor taste.

For Barcelona, the main goal now is to think of the best way to replace Dembele. Ferran Torres could easily take over the reins on the right, while Ansu Fati controls the left. However, the team is on injury away from another attacking crisis again.
