With roughly two months of the season remaining, Manchester United’s plans for this summer’s transfer window should be drawn up at this point and it’s likely that Erik ten Hag will prioritise a move for a striker.

United are without a goal threat in that position despite Marcus Rashford’s spectacular season, which has seen him find the net 27 times so far this season.

Rashford prefers a role on the left-hand side, however, and Ten Hag’s other options through the middle have struggled to score goals consistently.

Victor Osimhen, the Napoli talisman, has emerged as a leading candidate but the Serie A giants are unlikely to let him go cheaply. The same applies to Harry Kane, who has just one year left on his contract at Tottenham.

That could prompt United into looking at alternatives and now, the club has once again been linked with a move for Roma star Tammy Abraham.

According to Sky Sports Italy, via the Express, Abraham is likely to put an end to his two-year stay in Italy this summer and three Premier League clubs are said to be interested.

United are one of the clubs potentially keen on making a move, whilst Chelsea and Aston Villa are also named. Abraham left Chelsea in a big-money deal in 2021 and enjoyed his most prolific period in England on loan at Aston Villa.

SN’s verdict… Abraham’s enjoyed a sparkling first season with Roma but his second term has been far more challenging, scoring just six goals in 27 Serie A appearances.

The 25-year-old’s stuttering form has meant that Mourinho has opted to keep him on the bench for some games, with Andrea Belotti getting the not instead.

It remains to be seen who United eventually land on but much like last summer, when United made it a priority to strengthen the midfield, a striker is highly likely to join.
