Article image:Man United 1-1 Chelsea player ratings: Points shared in most drawn Premier League fixture

This result means eight of the last 13 encounters between United and Chelsea in the Premier League have finished in a tie. Furthermore, this matchup holds the record for the most draws in the competition’s history, totalling 27.

Under the leadership of interim manager and club legend Ruud van Nistelrooy, the hosts took the lead through a Bruno Fernandes penalty. However, Moises Caicedo immediately equalized for the visitors, ensuring that the points would be shared.

Manchester United player ratings

André Onana: 50%

Perhaps he was slightly unsighted for Caicedo’s long-range effort that beat him, but Onana was uncharacteristically wayward in completing his long passes, achieving only 29% accuracy from his five attempts upfield.

Diogo Dalot: 59%

He failed to complete his only take-on attempt but redeemed himself with two successful tackles from three attempts.

Lisandro Martínez: 59%

He was fortunate to have escaped without a red card after a late, reckless challenge. Martínez won 50% of his ground duels and finished the game with a ball retention rate below 90%, which is poor by his standards.

Matthijs de Ligt: 56%

He contributed with two blocked shots, but a 33% success rate in aerial duels affected his final rating.

Noussair Mazraoui: 64%

He completed all five take-on attempts, won six of eight attempted tackles, and regained possession four times. His performance has put him in contention to be selected as Ruben Amorim’s left or right wing-back.

Eyebrows were raised when it was announced that Casemiro would start with his best days behind him. However, the former Real Madrid player demonstrated his value by making three interceptions, winning two attempted tackles, and regaining possession five times in the middle third. Despite these contributions, being dribbled past on three occasions and a less-than-stellar forward passing percentage of 23 limited his overall rating.

Manuel Ugarte: 49%

Ugarte is expected to be a key player for Amorim, having previously worked under the new United manager. He played all but six minutes of this game and was often bypassed in midfield and struggled to make an impact, failing to record any interceptions or successful take-ons. He also committed a game-high total of six fouls.

Alejandro Garnacho: 59%

He missed a significant opportunity and failed to create a single big chance for United in a game where he had nine touches in the penalty area. This highlights Garnacho’s tendency toward inconsistency, which is understandable given his young age.

Bruno Fernandes: 74%

Broke the deadlock from twelve yards and created two big chances for United while also maintaining a 100% take-on completion rate. Fernandes also made 11 penalty area entries and won three tackles in a strong all-around performance.

Marcus Rashford: 55%

Given his steady decline, you don’t expect much from Rashford these days. In another disappointing performance, the winger managed only one shot on goal, a big chance missed as it hit the woodwork. He failed to create a single chance and won just one of his five attempted take-ons.

Rasmus Højlund: 48%

He won the penalty that broke the deadlock for United, which was one of five fouls he drew in the match. However, he did not manage a single shot on goal, likely due to the hosts’ lacklustre and disorganised build-up play.

Chelsea player ratings

Robert Sánchez: 53%

He made three saves, two of which were inside the penalty area. Sánchez was only beaten from twelve yards, preventing another clean sheet in the Premier League. However, his long pass accuracy of 25% affected his overall rating and kept it from being higher.

Reece James: 63%

Chelsea’s captain won five of six aerial duels and made 13 entries into the final third, five more than any player from either team.

Levi Colwill: 60%

Colwill was credited with two successful Chelsea offside traps and made three interceptions. It’s fair to say he’s filling the shoes left by Thiago Silva.

Wesley Fofana: 71%

It was a monster performance from Fofana, who, in addition to registering one interception, produced no fewer than six clearances, won two tackles, and five aerial duels.

Malo Gusto: 59%

He played only the opening 45 minutes, during which Gusto was dribbled past once. However, he managed to have four touches in the opposition, showcasing his license to bomb forward, which often comes with risks.

Roméo Lavia: 59%

Although he wouldn’t play the final 20 minutes, he won 10 duels and made a similar amount of final third entries, while achieving a 100% success rate in take-ons (2/2).

Moisés Caicedo: 70%

He was the best Chelsea midfielder on the pitch, and it wasn’t close; aside from his equaliser that salvaged a point, the Ecuadorian international completed two take-ons with an 80% forward passing accuracy and won nine duels.

Pedro Neto: 61%

He has earned a place in Chelsea’s starting lineup and managed to have one of the Blues’ three shots on target. Neto, though, was unable to create any chances. While he attempted the most take-ons for the visitors, with five, he only successfully completed two of them.

Cole Palmer: 70%

He created three scoring opportunities for his teammates, more than any other Chelsea player, including one that was classified as a ‘big chance.’ However, Palmer also recorded three shots on goal, none of which were on target. Despite this, he had a team-high five touches in the opposition box, demonstrating that, regardless of his shooting accuracy, he is Chelsea’s go-to player, and that is unlikely to change anytime soon.

Noni Madueke: 56%

He hit the post, although it’s difficult to determine if he was aware of it given the chaos in the United penalty area. Madueke left the pitch in the 70th minute without creating a single chance and successfully completed just one of his three attempted take-ons.

Nicolas Jackson: 48%

He had only one shot on target in a game where he was largely ineffective, managing just three touches in the opposition’s box and struggling to win aerial duels (1/3).

How do Squawka player ratings work?

Squawka’s new player rating system is wholly stats-based. Player scores are based on the numbers they put up across a range of on-ball events, from goals scored to tackles won.

We tailored each score to the players’ respective positions using extensive research and expertise. For example, forwards are rated on metrics like shots on target, touches in the opposition box, and big chances created. Meanwhile, centre-backs are rewarded for winning aerial duels, making blocks, successful long-range passes, etc.
