However, a remarkable report in the Daily Mail on Friday night will have City fans rubbing their hands together because there’s good reason to think that they’re the frontrunners to sign the 21-year-old.

‘Deal in place’ for Man City to sign Haaland

The Mail claims that the Premier League champions have a deal in place to poach Haaland from Borussia Dortmund this summer with personal terms having already been discussed.

Sources in Germany even go as far as saying that they expect Haaland to opt for a move to the Etihad Stadium with City chiefs ready to sign off the frameworks of what would be a game-changing transfer.

Let’s start easy: What was Tottenham’s old ground called?

The Norwegian striker currently has a £63-million release clause at Dortmund, but the player’s agent, Mino Raiola, is expected to pocket a substantial fee with the deal potentially rising to around £100 million.

The financials are said to be affordable for City and that there is “a growing feeling across Europe that the Premier League champions are in pole position to land the continent’s hottest property.”

Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain are also said to be interested in Haaland, but Real Madrid – despite seemingly prioritising a move for Kylian Mbappe – are touted as City’s most significant adversary.

All in all, though, the report hints heavily that City are leading the race for Haaland’s signature and as a result, we couldn’t help wondering what Pep Guardiola’s starting XI might look like next season.

Besides, if you think what the Citizens have achieved in the 2021/22 campaign without really even having a centre forward, it doesn’t bear thinking about what they might accomplish with a goal machine like Haaland.

So, we strongly advise that Premier League fans of any club other than City hide behind the sofa right now as we unveil the terrifying line-up that Guardiola could field for the 2022/23 season down below:

Goodness. Gracious. Me.

A terrifying prospect

Imagine an XI so outrageously good that even Jack Grealish, Raheem Sterling, Gabriel Jesus, John Stones, Nathan Ake, Ilkay Gundogan, Fernandinho and Julian Alvarez have to watch on from the bench at the very best.

The fact that City are competing for Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup glory having lost Sergio Aguero and Ferran Torres in less than 12 months makes the thought of them gaining Haaland downright scary.

Chelsea have stunning squad depth themselves and Jurgen Klopp is working miracles at Liverpool, but surely the Premier League title race would be nothing short of a procession if this actually happened.

So, with more and more evidence pointing towards City emerging as the club to sign a future Ballon d’Or winner in Haaland, England’s top clubs better strap themselves in to face one of the division’s most fearsome ever line-ups.
