After Manchester City won their first trophy of 2023, Pep Guardiola joked that his team had "drunk all the alcohol in Manchester".

However, after the club's fourth piece of silverware in as many months, Guardiola stressed that his side had to be more restrained. "Recover as much as possible, not one drop of alcohol," City's coach said after a penalty shootout victory over Sevilla on Wednesday night.

Guardiola felt that City had to employ a teetotal approach to their celebrations in Greece because of the club's upcoming fixture list. "Thank you so much to the Premier League," the Catalan coach seethed, "for letting us play on Saturday and not on Sunday and Monday."

We've established when City's next match is - and how thrilled Guardiola is about its scheduling - but who are the champions playing and what else lies ahead? Most importantly, will there be time for a cold beer in the near future?

Mercifully for Guardiola and his attention to timekeeping, UEFA scrapped extra time for the Super Cup this year. Nevertheless, City's match against Sevilla didn't end until Nemanja Gudelj hit the crossbar at eight minutes past midnight, local time.

While Newcastle United could enjoy a full week of preparation after thrashing Aston Villa 5-1 last weekend, City have less than 72 hours to travel back from Greece and recover ahead of Saturday's match. Not that the reigning champions of Europe and England will garner much sympathy.

Manchester City have won their last five matches against Sheffield United across all competitions without conceding a single goal - including last season's FA Cup semi-final.

Jon Stead, the former journeyman striker that helped knock Chelsea out of the FA Cup while at Bradford City in 2015, was the last Sheffield United player to score against City all the way back in 2008.

Marco Silva has gone head-to-head with Guardiola while in charge of five different clubs - he is yet to avoid defeat, losing all 11 games.

However, the current Fulham boss has come closest to ending this disastrous streak while in charge of the Cottagers. On the club's most recent visit to the Etihad Stadium, Fulham were seconds away from a point until Erling Haaland converted a 95th-minute penalty.

Kevin De Bruyne is the only player at Manchester City that was at the club when they last lost a Premier League game against West Ham United.

The Belgian playmaker scored in a 2-1 defeat in September 2015 (when West Ham were briefly in second place) but will sit out City's next trip to east London after Guardiola confirmed the severity of his injury.

Since the inception of the Champions League in 1992, when the European Cup's knockout format was rejigged, Real Madrid are the only club to have ever retained the continent's greatest prize.

Manchester City begin their defence of the 2023 crown against group-stage opponents that have not yet been determined. As champions, City are a Pot 1 team but can still get drawn against the likes of Real Madrid, Inter, Borussia Dortmund, Atletico Madrid and RB Leipzig in the first phase.

When Nottingham Forest snatched a point away from their home clash with City in February, they prevented Guardiola's side from leapfrogging Arsenal at the Premier League summit, shifting control of the title race back to north London.

Yet, three months later, it was Forest's victory over Arsenal that sealed the title for City. The result of September's contest may not have quite such an immediate impact on this year's race for first place but every point adds up - as City know all too well.
