Manchester City’s appeal against their ban from European football ‘could take up to two months’, in news which could cause uncertainty for the remainder of the Premier League season.

Pep Guardiola’s side were handed a two-season ban from continental competition after being found guilty of breaching UEFA’s Financial Fair Play regulations, though the club have denied any wrongdoing and have launched a subsequent appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

The ruling came after the club were found by UEFA to have ‘overstated its sponsorship revenue in its accounts and in the break-even information submitted to UEFA between 2012 and 2016’, whilst the reigning Premier League champions were also hit with a fine of €30 million.

Man City‘s appeal is set to be heard next week but according to the Mirror, CAS sources have revealed a final decision on the club’s participation in the Champions League ‘could take up to two months’.

The club’s chief executive, Ferran Soriano, has insisted that the ‘allegations are false’ and asked for an ‘early resolution’ back in February, in order for the club’s hierarchy to plan accordingly for next season.

City currently sit second in the Premier League and are almost certain to finish in the top four, though should their ban be upheld, the side finishing fifth – currently Manchester United – would likely be handed a Champions League place for next season.
