Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva has confirmed he picked up an injury during Portugal’s 1-1 draw with Croatia.
Silva was withdrawn at half-time of the friendly in the Algarve with a groin problem and is not expected to play against Italy in the UEFA Nations League on Monday night.
But the good news is, the 24-year-old’s injury is not thought to be too serious, and he should be in contention to return when City take on Fulham in the Premier League on Saturday.
“I came off at half time because I have been having a little discomfort in the groin area, and with Mr. Fernando Santos we thought it was better not to risk the second half,” said the former Monaco man, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News.
Silva has featured in each of the Blues’ four Premier League games so far this season, and scored in the opening day victory over Arsenal.
After taking some time to settle last season, the Portuguese international is expected to kick on this term, and he was lauded by Pep Guardiola for his display in the Community Shield last month.
“The performance of Bernardo Silva was a masterpiece,” Guardiola said.
“Everybody knows the wingers want to compete. Right now, it is Bernardo and 10 others. But in 11 months it depends on what they show me on the pitch.”
