Manchester City wing-back Pedro Porro is full of pride with his first call to the Spain squad.
Porro is on-loan this season at Sporting CP and was named by Spain coach Luis Enrique in his squad this week for their 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Greece, Georgia and Kosovo. Enrique included four Manchester City players in his line-up with Porro joining Eric Garcia, Rodri and Ferran Torres.
Porro admits getting the news was an emotional moment for both him and his family. The defender having endured a difficult loan with Real Valladolid last season, but finding his feet and form in Portugal with Sporting CP this term.
Quoted by Efe via O Jogo, he said, "I was at home when I received the call and immediately spoke to my family, it was a great joy. To tell you the truth, we wept with emotion. I am very happy, as it is another goal accomplished."
Porro admits he's now anxious to join up with the La Roja squad and prove himself to Enrique and his new Spain teammates.
He added: "What can I give to the national team? Ambition, will and, above all, the game that characterises me on the field. I am a humble kid who never surrenders, who always goes for everything ... I'm a little nervous, of course, but I will do my best, as I do for my club."
Porro's loan with Sporting runs to the summer of 2022, with the option to buy. At City, the former Girona defender has a contract to 2024.
