Manchester City are willing to spend a staggering £200 million in the summer transfer window, according to the latest reports from England, with three positions already identified as areas to enhance in the market.

There has been a feeling for several weeks now that the next summer market would be that of heavy business for Etihad officials, and Saturday’s claims support that feeling.

Despite last summer expected to be one of significant change at Manchester City, it later turned out to be one of relatively little investment compared to what had been reported. Instead, City looked to focus on strengthening their negotiations to expand the City Football Group, while investment came in the form of Nathan Ake, Ferran Torres, and Ruben Dias – the latter of whom has proven to be a major success.

However, according to Mike McGrath of the Telegraph – who is known to be reliable on the transfer scene – Pep Guardiola is set to ‘oversee significant investment‘ into Manchester City’s squad in the upcoming summer. Etihad officials are ‘willing‘ to spend £200 million on the ‘right players‘, the Telegraph reports.

Although there have been suggestions that Sergio Aguero could sign a one-year contract extension at the club, the Telegraph claims that Manchester City will be in the market for a ‘long-term successor‘, even if the Argentine forward stays at the club.

On a similar line, with Fernandinho also coming towards the end of his current deal at the Etihad Stadium, Pep Guardiola will look to strengthen in the defensive-midfield position while also being in the market for a new left-back.

When it comes to strikers, Manchester City have not been short of options if you’re to believe everything in the papers over the past few months. The likes of Erling Haaland, Lautaro Martinez, Romelu Lukaku, Harry Kane, and Darwin Nunez have all been linked with moves, although it feels as though the primary target would be the Borussia Dortmund man.

As per reports from Fabrizio Romano, City’s focus also seems to be focused on Denis Zakaria of Borussia Monchengladbach, despite links to Milan’s Ismael Bennacer. As for the left-back position, this may have to be an area to watch out for, with very little in the way of concrete rumours on that front.
