Chelsea, meanwhile, return to Wembley for the first time since their Carabao Cup final defeat to Liverpool in February.

The Blues remain inconsistent but have gone unbeaten against City this season and, in Cole Palmer, they boast one of Europe’s form players looking to prove his previous employers wrong.

Man City vs Chelsea team news

City had almost their full compliment available for the Madrid game, although John Stones was only able to play 10 minutes. Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne came off after asking to do so, as Guardiola confirmed after the game.

Haaland is a doubt after a muscle issue, though Guardiola has suggested De Bruyne is feeling fit again after a hamstring complaint.

The Blues will welcome back Enzo Fernandez and Axel Disasi after they missed Monday’s 6-0 win over Everton.

Romeo Lavia, Christopher Nkunku, Robert Sanchez, Reece James, Wesley Fofana, Lesley Ugochukwu and Levi Colwill are all believed to be out at this stage.
