A lot’s been said about the future of Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva, and a recent update from Pol Ballus, while writing for The Athletic, has confirmed that the Cityzens have no intention of budging from their €100 million valuation of the player.
For once, City are not at all willing to sell Bernardo Silva in the first place. However, they know the player is looking forward to the move as Barcelona’s interest continues to gather pace.
The stories of the Catalan’s interest have been doing rounds in the last weeks, but as things stand, the La Liga side has not approached with any kind of formal offer.
For City, they expect it to happen in the final week of the transfer window, and if that is indeed the case, only a blockbuster bid can convince them to even think of selling the Portugal international.
All this because the timing of Barcelona’s offer is going to play a big role. For City to sanction Bernardo’s sale, they need to make sure they have a replacement ready.
And judging by the stories cooking in the market, they haven’t shortlisted anyone so far and finding one within a week will be impossible anyway.
It’s been brought to light that Bernardo’s agent Jorge Mendes shares a great working relationship with Barcelona, but that isn’t going to affect City’s stance. In case there is, in fact, an offer in the last week of the transfer window, City will inform the parties that only a bid of €100 million can change their mind.
Now, City are aware of the Portuguese’s wish to play for Barcelona, and while they are open to listening to offers, the only way he can depart is to match the aforementioned valuation.
If Barcelona are really serious about their pursuit, City will expect them to bring their A-game as any last-minute deal will be rebuffed as the Premier League champions will not have time to bring in the replacement.
