Manchester City signing Kylian Mbappe to partner Erling Haaland would be a ‘really exciting prospect’ for manager Pep Guardiola, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

City spent more than £120 million on new recruits in the summer transfer window but will have the opportunity to reinvest further at the turn of the year.

What is the latest on Mbappe?

It was reported earlier this month that the 23-year-old was eager to leave Paris Saint-Germain after he was left feeling betrayed by the club.

The Telegraph later added that the Ligue 1 champions had no intention to sell and would only consider offers in excess of £300 million.

But after he helped his side beat Marseille 1-0 this term, Mbappe insisted he had not asked to leave and that he was ‘very happy’ with his situation.

The 59-cap France international took his goal tally for the season to 16 strikes in midweek when he scored twice in a 7-2 thrashing of Maccabi Haifa in the Champions League.

What has O’Rourke said on a move to City?

O’Rourke claims that the North West outfit have shown their desire to sign the world’s best players already and, as a result, they will be keeping an eye on Mbappe.

The journalist adds that the prospect of seeing Haaland and Mbappe line up together is an exciting one.

O’Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: “Manchester City have shown that they want to sign the world’s best players, so there’s no doubt that they would be looking at it to see if there’s a deal to be done there for him as well. I’m sure the idea of having Mbappe and Haaland will be a really exciting prospect for Pep Guardiola as well.”

Should City sign Mbappe?

It is easy to see why any side in the world would want to sign the World Cup winner, with him already scoring 214 career goals, with 145 of those coming in Ligue 1.

But City have to strongly consider whether he is somebody they actually need and would signing him mean neglecting other areas?

Haaland is not exactly struggling without Mbappe’s help, having already scored 17 Premier League goals this term, after all.

Guardiola also has the futures of exciting youngsters Cole Palmer and Julian Alvarez to consider – would a deal for Mbappe spell the end of their time at the club?
