Manchester City are close to signing Arminia Bielefeld’s Stefan Ortega Moreno to be their back-up goalkeeper to Ederson.

That’s according to German outlet kicker, who report on Thursday that the 29-year-old is set to join the Premier League champions when his contract expires on 30 June.

City had not been expected to be in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer but with Scott Carson recently extending his contract for a further year, Ortega’s possible arrival at the Etihad Stadium suggests Zack Steffen could soon be sold.

Steffen made nine appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side last season, the most recent of which was the FA Cup semi-final defeat to Liverpool in which the United States international made a high-profile error.

Ortega, meanwhile, has been at Bielefeld since 2017 and kept six clean sheets in 35 appearances as the club were relegated from the Bundesliga last season.

The uncapped German shot-stopper has also been linked with Bayern Munich and Schalke 04 this summer, but it appears a move to England is on the agenda instead.
