Manchester City say they are “shocked and appalled” after footage emerged on social media showing Phil Foden and his family involved in a violent altercation.
The shocking video shows Foden’s mother Claire being punched by a man who appeared to have been verbally abusing the City midfielder, sparking a fight involving several people.
It is not clear exactly when the footage is from, but there are suggestions the altercation may have taken place during the Amir Khan and Kell Brook boxing event at Manchester Arena on Saturday evening.
On Sunday, City issued the following response.
“The club is aware of a video which has circulated on social media showing Phil Foden and his family being harassed and abused. We are shocked and appalled about the nature of the abuse and ensuing assault on one of Phil’s family members.
“We will continue to give Phil and his family all the support and assistance they need.”
Foden played the full 90 minutes as City were beaten 3-2 by Tottenham Hotspur at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.
