Manchester City are willing to offer Vincent Kompany a new contract but aren’t expected to hold talks until the end of the season.

Kompany’s current deal is set to expire in June 2019 and the Belgian could technically negotiate a free transfer to another club from January onwards.

But according to The Sun, City aren’t concerned about losing their captain to anyone else and the club’s hierarchy want Pep Guardiola and his players to be focused on retaining their Premier League crown.

The 32-year-old – who last week celebrated 10 years at City – has struggled with a number of injury problems over the years but his leadership qualities mean he is likely to be offered a new 12-month rolling contract.

He may, however, be forced to accept a reduction to his £200,000-a-week wage packet.

“There are no issues with Vinnie and everything is expected to happen when the season ends,” an “Etihad source” is quoted as telling The Sun.

“There are no talks but that isn’t a problem at this stage. It’s going to be a similar situation to when Gary Neville was at United.

“He isn’t going anywhere, we know that. His injuries have been an issue but we know he has no intentions of hanging up his boots just yet.”

The Belgian international is due a testimonial for his services to the club, but that is unlikely to happen until after he retires.

And once he does hang up his boots, Kompany is likely to be offered an ambassadorial role within the City Football Group, should he decide not to move into coaching.
