Manchester City have opened talks with Rico Lewis over a bumper new contract, sources have told 90min.

The 18-year-old has broken through into the Premier League champions' first-team this season, playing in a number of roles and across the backline under the guidance of Pep Guardiola.

He became Man City's youngest ever Champions League scorer when he grabbed a goal in a 3-1 win against Sevilla in November, simultaneously breaking the record for the youngest player to score on a first start in the competition.

With 17 senior appearances to his name and many more expected to come, Lewis has outgrown the youth wages he is currently still on.

90min understands Man City are looking to hand Lewis a long-term deal following his emergence. The England youth international is believed to be very happy at the club and there aren't expected to be any issues in agreeing fresh terms.

Lewis is expected to be called into the England Under-21 squad for the first time later this month, while he has also been considered for a senior call-up by Gareth Southgate.
