Man City monitoring Postecoglou to replace Guardiola | OneFootball

Manchester City have been keeping an eye on Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou as a possible replacement for Pep Guardiola, according to the Telegraph.

There are other contenders including Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta, Burnley boss Vincent Kompany and Brighton & Hove Albion’s Roberto De Zerbi.

However, Man City believe there are similarities between Guardiola and Postecoglou in terms of style and philosophy.

Guardiola, whose contract runs until 2025, has hinted he could stay beyond the expiration of his deal, but the Cityzens want to have a successor lined up in case he decides to step down.

Despite the interest, it will be difficult for City to snag Postecoglou from Tottenham. The 58-year-old is only a year into the four-year deal he signed with the club.

The former Celtic manager has declared he is happy in London and wants to build a long-term project there.

Man City’s 115 charges for Financial Fair Play breaches also pose another significant challenge. Their future as a club is uncertain, as the punishments could have dire consequences.

Postecoglou has been an instant hit at Tottenham after spearheading their surge up the league table.

Spurs led the Premier League earlier this season, although injuries and suspensions have since tempered expectations from the Australian manager.

They are currently fifth in the table, three points away from Aston Villa in fourth place and eight adrift of Liverpool at the summit.

Postecoglou’s start has been pleasing for Levy and sporting director Johan Lange. They have moved quickly to reinforce his squad to give him the best tools to make it into the top four and possibly win a cup.

Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin have come through the door, and they could make a late move for Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher.
