Man City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan feels that he and his teammates absolutely cannot underestimate Inter Milan.

Speaking to the Cityzens’ official website, the 32-year-old stressed that the Nerazzurri are a team who have proven they belong at this level and are capable of winning trophies, so City will have to approach the match in the right way.

Few would deny that Manchester City go into Saturday’s Champions League final as the favourites.

At the same time, Inter have also staked their claim on their place in the final. The Nerazzurri have already managed to beat the likes of Barcelona, Porto, Benfica, and AC Milan to get here.

From the perspective of City midfielder Gundogan, the last thing that his team should do is become complacent.

The German international stressed this point in giving his thoughts ahead of this weekend’s big showdown in Istanbul.

Man City Star Ilkay Gundogan: Inter Milan Cannot Be Counted Out

“Inter didn’t get to the final for nothing,” Gundgoan said.

“They have great qualities even though it wasn’t enough for them to win their league this year. But they did win the National Cup [Coppa Italia].”

“They are a team that knows how to win titles. They are very aggressive in their way of playing. Maybe they are more focussed on the defensive side but they also have amazing qualities going forward. They are a very stable team.:

“They usually don’t concede too many goals,” the former Borussia Dortmund midfielder said. “So it won’t be easy. We know they will probably be happy to let us have the ball, and it will be up to us to make the most of that.”

“We will need to watch out for counter attacks,” Gundogan emphasized.

“We have to be wide awake. Especially in a final, anything can happen. So we have to be fully focused.”
