Manchester City midfielder İlkay Gündoğan has gone public with his disapproval of Uefa’s plans to revamp the Champions League.
City were of course one of the 12 clubs backing hugely controversial plans for a new European Super League earlier this week.
Amid that chaos, Uefa announced that the Champions League will switch to a “Swiss-style” 36-team tournament from 2024 onwards, where every club plays 10 league stage games against 10 opponents, and two places in the competition will be awarded to clubs based on historical success.
And writing on Twitter on Thursday evening, Gündoğan has hit out at European football’s governing body.
City will be aiming to win the club’s first ever Champions League when they take on Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of their semi-final tie next week.
