Manchester City are preparing to offer Phil Foden a new long-term contract, according to Fabrizio Romano.

What did Romano say about Foden getting a new contract?

Romano confirmed that City boss Pep Guardiola is a big admirer of Foden, and revealed that the versatile attacker, who is valued at £72m by Transfermarkt, should receive a new offer within the next few months.

He told The Here We Go Podcast“They want to plan for a new contract for Phil Foden. They consider him as an ‘untouchable’ player. Pep Guardiola loves Phil Foden, and they’re going to talk with Foden in the coming weeks/months about a new contract.

“It’s not agreed or advanced yet, absolutely, but they are planning to talk about it with Phil Foden. They want Phil Foden to stay and they are working on his contract until 2027 it could be, so six years. They are talking about it but it is not imminent.”

How did Foden perform in his latest outing for Man City?

Foden missed the Euro 2020 final earlier this summer with a foot injury, and this same issue also kept him out of City's opening three league games of the new season.

He made his return in the Champions League last week, though, and after a further appearance off the bench on the weekend, he was handed his first start of the campaign against Wycombe in the Carabao Cup last night. It seemed like he'd never been away.

Who is this former City player?

Ian Poveda Denis Suarez Pablo Maffeo Karim Rekik

The diminutive midfielder delivered a stunning display as he registered two assists either side of scoring a stunning goal from the edge of the penalty area. This earned him a perfect WhoScored match rating of 10 as City cruised to a 6-1 victory to book their place in the last 16 of the competition that they have won five times in the last six seasons.

It was a timely reminder of just how good Foden is, with City now readying themselves for a huge week in their season when they will take on Chelsea, PSG and Liverpool prior to the next international break.
