How it went

An early chance for Chloe Kelly combined with more than 90 percent of the opening five minutes’ possession would no doubt have had Leicester’s hearts racing.

However, it was the hosts who had the first real chance of the game as Hannah Cain’s effort saw Ellie Roebuck forced to pull off an impressive save.

More chances came for the visitors as Deyna Castellanos and Bunny Shaw both narrowly avoided finding the back of Janina Leitzig’s goal.

The rest of the second half continued in a similar fashion. While the visitors enjoyed a barrage of chances, Leitzig was more than equal to the danger.

The second half finally saw the deadlock broken as Shaw found the opener. The Jamaican international headed home Laura Coombs’ cross in the 61st minute. Shaw leads the tally as the WSL’s top scorer for the season with 10 goals in 12 matches.

More chances followed for both sides as Leicester searched for an equaliser, however just 13 minutes later, Chloe Kelly found the back of the net for her first league goal of the season.

City’s win puts them on 26 points, two behind Chelsea and Manchester United, who are tied at the top of the table, with only goal difference separating them.
