According to reports, Manchester City are hoping to finalise the signing of Rennes winger Jeremy Doku and also have a Bayern Munich attacker on their shortlist.

Pep Guardiola is in the market for a new winger having let Riyad Mahrez join Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Ahly.

Belgian youngster Doku has recently emerged as a surprise target. In 90 appearances for Rennes, the 21-year-old has scored 11 goals and provided 10 assists.

The Telegraph reported earlier this week that Doku is being ‘strongly considered’ by Guardiola following the sale of Mahrez.

Rennes’ record sale is currently Nayef Aguerd – who joined West Ham for £30million last year – and the report says Doku’s prospective move to the Etihad would be the French club’s ‘record departure’.

Doku is believed to be valued between €50million (£43.18million) and €60m (£51.82m) by Rennes and, unsurprisingly, personal terms are not expected to be a problem.

On Friday evening, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano provided an update on the situation, writing on Twitter: “Manchester City are working on Jeremy Doku since beginning of August. Negotiations are already advanced on player side.

“Doku and [Lucas] Paqueta are priority targets after Gvardiol — exclusive news, now being confirmed.”

This came after a tweet from French journalist Fabrice Hawkins, who says Manchester City are hoping to finalise the signing of Doku “soon”.

Hawkins adds that the transfer will likely be the “most expensive” sale in Rennes’ history.

Surprisingly, it is claimed that the Cityzens are also interested in signing Bayern winger Kingsley Coman.

Coman recently turned 27 and is worth €65m (£56m), as per Transfermarkt.

He has never played in the Premier League before and is well known for winning whatever league he plays in, so he would fit in perfectly in Manchester. The blue half, of course.

Unfortunately for City and Guardiola, Bayern “have closed the door” on the transfer, says Hawkins.

Another player the European champions are looking at is Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise, who is on Guardiola’s “shortlist”.

City are facing competition from Chelsea, who have reached an “agreement” with the French Under-21 international.

Guardiola’s side appear to be prioritising the signing of West Ham playmaker Lucas Paqueta at this moment in time.

According to a report from The Telegraph, City and the Hammers are currently ‘locked in talks’ after David Moyes confirmed a bid has been made.

West Ham are understood to have knocked back an initial £60m approach from the Premier League champions.

“We’ve had an offer from Manchester City, but at the moment it’s not anywhere near meeting our valuation,” Moyes said during a press conference on Friday.

Despite initial frustrations in the summer window, the Irons have added Mexico midfielder Edson Alvarez to the squad in a £35million deal from Ajax, with Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse set to follow.

“James Ward-Prowse is having a medical just now. We’ve agreed a fee but it’s not right I speak about him as he’s not yet our player,” Moyes added.
