Manchester City have not contacted star striker Sergio Agüero over extending his current contract, which runs out at the end of this season, according to Sam Lee of the Athletic.

The Argentine has had a spell of bad luck fitness wise this season. Only today, the 32-year-old confirmed, after coming into contact with a family member, that he had tested positive for COVID-19. This is only a small part of the injury troubles Agüero has suffered since damaging his knee in a match against Burnley towards the back end of last season.

According to these reports, it was expected that Agüero, after his period of isolation, was to feature against Aston Villa. However, after coming into contact with another person who had tested positive for COVID-19, the striker has to endure another period of isolation.

With his contract expiring in the summer, Agüero will want to prove his fitness in order to receive a new contract. In fact, the reports do say that sources close to the player have confirmed he does want to stay at the club, despite the fact they’re actively looking for a new striker.

As of yet though, the club haven’t made contact with the player or his representatives with an offer of any nature. Agüero was told however, that regaining his fitness and playing on a regular basis may help his cause.
