Aro Muric was tremendous in Manchester City’s shootout win over Leicester City in the EFL Cup quarter-final on Tuesday night.

After getting a hand on Harry Maguire’s goal to begin the shootout, Muric forced Christian Fuchs to smash his effort over the bar before making back-to-back saves on James Maddison and Çağlar Söyüncü to give his side a 3-1 win.

Following the match, the six-foot-seven Kosovo international thanked fellow City goalkeeper and penalty mastermind Claudio Bravo for giving him valuable lessons on how to prevent opponents from scoring from 12 yards.

“It’s about personality, with Claudio. Players have respect for him and he has confidence.

“He is very good at penalties so I have been learning. I used some of his teaching – like walking forwards, to try to make the player a bit nervous.

“I was trying to get them to focus on me, and it seemed to work.

“I gave my best. I was nervous and can do a lot better but I had worked a lot with my goalkeeper coaches and the great keepers I train with.

“It gives me a lot of confidence. The first one, I nearly got there, but I knew I had to make saves for us to go through.

“It was my first shoot-out in the first team, but I have had them in the junior teams, one against Rotherham. I have had three and lost one.”

Last season, Guardiola used Bravo all the way through to the final, where City triumphed over Arsenal 3-0.

Though it’s very likely Muric will get the nod for the two-legged semi-final against third-tier Burton Albion, the manager could potentially face a tough decision if they make it to the final, where they would face the winner of Chelsea and Tottenham.

Muric has been between the sticks for all three of City’s EFL Cup matches this season.

“For me it’s important, and for the team, because we want to win everything. But the cup is important for me,” said Muric.

“I would love to have the medal for playing and being part of it.”
