Manchester City will have another roadblock to negotiate across what has already been a frustrating season after the club have confirmed the timeline surrounding Nathan Aké's recovery.
The versatile Dutch international successfully negotiated surgery back on the third of the month, but City will be stripped of his services for 10-11 weeks after Pep Guardiola offered confirmation during his press conference.
"Ten, 11 weeks [he will be out] they said to me," said Guardiola.
"When you have surgery it is because something wrong happened.
"It's important that it is done. He has struggled."
Two of City's January additions, Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis, could be set to benefit further from Aké's absence, with Guardiola speaking positively of both.
"The impact of [Abdukodir] Khusanov was really good... Vitor [Reis] was really good against Plymouth," he said.
"Now, some centre-backs from the Academy are coming to play with us. Some of the senior ones may be ready for the Club World Cup."
"We are unlucky [with injuries] but the Club took the decision to sign in January and if we hadn’t we would be in trouble."
City face a stern test away from home against Nottingham Forest tomorrow, with the visitors looking to jump up to third in the table.
