Manchester City are making “strong progress” on agreeing a contract extension with Kevin De Bruyne, report the Daily Mail.

De Bruyne still has three years left to run on his current contract, but City are reportedly hoping to tie the Belgian down to an additional two-year deal worth more than £300,000-per-week plus bonuses.

The new contract wouldn’t expire until 2025, when De Bruyne will be 34, meaning he could be set to finish his career at the Etihad Stadium.

City are said to be keen to reward their top stars for the loyalty shown to the club during their messy battle with UEFA over a two-year European ban, which was ultimately overturned by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

And though the players chose Fernandinho as the man to replace David Silva as the club’s new captain this summer, De Bruyne is the vice-captain and is expected to take over the armband permanently when it next becomes available.
