Manchester City captain Fernandinho admits their FA Cup semifinal defeat to Chelsea was tough to take.

A tightly contest clash at Wembley was settled by Hakim Zyech's second half strike to end hopes of appearing in next month's showpiece final.

“It's a big disappointment to lose an FA Cup semi-final – it is hard and tough to take," said Fernandinho.

“We have to congratulate Chelsea - they got the chance and scored the goal.

“It was an important match for us but they were a bit better than us and congratulations to them.

“Unfortunately, we were not able to play good football and take the chances.

“The way we play we try to press as high as we can and we give a bit of space behind our back line and they exploited that."

City made eight changes for the Wembley semi but the skipper said that had no bearing on the result.

“The rotation of the team is normal, the boss tries to play everyone," Ferna asserted.

“Every match is important for us – every game we change players."
