Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has reaffirmed expectations that Lionel Messi will remain in Barcelona.

Off contract in June, Messi is being linked with a move to England and City, where former Barca coach Guardiola has just signed a new deal to 2023.

But the City manager says: "Lionel Messi is a player for FC Barcelona.

"I have enormous gratitude to Barca for what they have done for me as a player since my training and as a coach. I would love, wish I had said it a thousand times. As a Barcelona fan, I would like him to end his career there. I don't know what he thinks, so far he's a Barcelona player.

"The transfer market is in June."
