Reflecting on the win, Guardiola highlighted the youngster's hunger and appetite for the game.

“I said many times what I think about Phil - the number of games goals, assists and kilometers he runs for the team," Guardiola asserted. “He's a guy close to the goals he has a special instinct - his standards are higher and he deserves to play.

“I try to judge the team day by day; recent performances and he lives 24 hours for football. I have the feeling he lives 24 hours a day to play football!

“He's happiest when he plays games or when his training. Everyone can see the standard of his performance."

Guardiola was also pressed on whether he thought given his fine displays, the 20-year-old was a strong shout to be selected by the watching Gareth Southgate for England's Euro 2021 squad this summer.

"I don't know - that's a question for Gareth (Southgate). I'm pretty sure he knows Phil well and how he is playing in the games and training," the City boss added.

"At Chelsea against Azpilicueta - one of the most outstanding defenders of the last 10 years in the Premier League he was outstanding and against Aaron Wan Bisaka of United he played pretty well when everyone struggles against him in the last few years.

"I don't know but I'm pretty sure he will be selected for Euros and I'm pretty sure he was impressed tonight like the rest of us."
