If you somehow haven’t seen this yet, prepare to cringe.

Just moments after their 2017/18 Premier League title was clinched by Manchester United’s defeat at home to West Brom on Sunday, Manchester City had somehow managed to spare some of their local rivals’ blushes thanks to the release of 60 of the most embarrassing seconds footage we think we’ve ever seen.

As part of their partnership with United Arab Emirates-based telecommunications provider Etisalat, City agreed to appear in a television commercial celebrating their title triumph and it really has to be seen to be believed. We’re also not sure what any of it has to do with telecommunications, but maybe that’s just us.

Featuring a dreadfully conceived terrace ‘chant’ sung to the tune of ‘If you’re happy and you know it clap your hands’, a weird stomp-based dance routine and four men inexplicably drinking pints of water in a pub, the whole thing is an absolute shit-show, frankly, and if City had anything about them, they’d give the Premier League trophy back by way of apology.

But is this even the worst example of football and commercialism bumping heads? Let’s take a look…

Before we move away from City, it’s testament to the awfulness of Etisalat’s commercial that this one, from the club’s shirt and stadium sponsors Etihad Airways, actually doesn’t seem too bad in comparison.

This footage of former City striker Carlos Tevez dancing in a commercial for Cartoon Network will haunt your dreams.

This is apparently how you sell frozen chicken in Brazil.

Speaking of chicken, this ad for Indian chicken tycoons Venky’s – owners of Blackburn Rovers – makes the Etisalat commercial look like a Fellini movie.

And it perhaps won’t surprise you to learn that the commercial behemoth that is Manchester United have been involved in their fair share of degrading commercial ventures before now. Take this ad for Kagome tomato juice.

Or Wayne Rooney’s Oscar-worthy performance in this ad for red wine.

We have no idea what this ad for SoftBank featuring Shinji Kagawa is all about, but we really want to watch more Japanese TV.

But sometimes, even the advertising world throws up the odd gem. Take this Pizza Hut commercial made after current England boss Gareth Southgate missed a crucial penalty in the shoot-out against Germany at Euro ’96.

Or Peter Crouch – the king of not taking yourself too seriously – dancing to Yazz in this commercial for T Mobile.

Or how about this genuinely good comic performance from Luis Suárez in an ad for Uruguayan company Abitab.

But this is the undisputed champion of them all. Kevin Keegan and Henry Cooper flogging Brut aftershave in the shower. You’re welcome.

And always remember: “If you’re feeling like a winner, stomp your feet.”
