Betway Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns are closing in on the signing of highly rated Angolan defensive midfielder Alberto Adao Campos Miguel, commonly known as Alem in his native country.
The Luanda-born star cut his professional teeth with Angolan giants Petro Atletico Luanda during the 2015/16 season, having rose through their youth ranks. He gained promotion to the first-team straight from the under-19 set up.
However, his spell with the 19-time Girabola champions was marred by a series of loan stints to fellow Angolan clubs, Progresso in 2018 and GD Interclube in 2022, whom he joined on a permanent deal from the 2022/23 season.
At GD Interclube, he continued to hone his craft with ample game time over the past few campaigns, earning more continental experience in the process, as he has racked a total of 22 appearances in the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup.
As a result, the player attracted the interest of a host of clubs across the continent, with Egyptian giants Zamalek SC, Algerian side CS Constantine and Tanzanian club Azam FC said to have enquired about his services.
But according to the latest exclusive information gathered by Foot Africa, Sundowns have emerged as frontrunners to land Alem’s signature, as they look to bolster their midfield after parting ways with several seasoned campaigners.
Personal terms with the 27-year-old anchor man are understood to have been agreed ahead of a move to Chloorkop. Moreover, sources have indicated that talks between Sundowns and Interclube are at the final stages, with an optimism that an agreement can be reached in the next few days.
Alem, who lifted the Angolan Cup with Petro during the 2020/21 season, was recently with the Angolan national team for the African Nations Championship (CHAN). With the East African nation having been knocked out, a transfer to the South African topflight is expected to accelerate.
