Real Madrid have confirmed through an official statement that the Examining Magistrate’s Court No. 3 of Palma de Mallorca has delivered a guilty verdict against an individual who directed racist insults at Vinicius Jr during a match between Mallorca and Real Madrid on 5th February 2023.

The fan, seated in the stands at the Son Moix stadium, has been found guilty of verbally abusing Vinicius Jr. and has now been sentenced. This marks the third conviction in recent months for racial abuse aimed at Real Madrid players.

In addition to Vinicius Jr, Samu Chukwueze, who plays for Villarreal, was also targeted by the same individual. As a result, the fan has been sentenced to 12 months in prison and banned from attending football stadiums for the next three years.

Details of the punishment

These complaints, brought forward by La Liga, have led to convictions for Crimes of Moral Integrity, with the court recognising the aggravating factor of racial discrimination. Despite this, the mitigating circumstance of repentance was also taken into account.

The penalties handed out include a six-month prison sentence for each incident and an 18-month ban from attending matches organised by La Liga or the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF). The two sentences have been combined.

In another case involving racial abuse, this time directed at Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni on 13th April, the situation was resolved through an out-of-court settlement. The individual involved, a minor, had insulted Tchouameni and thrown water bottles at him.

As part of the agreement, the minor has apologised to the player, Real Madrid, and La Liga. In addition, he is required to complete socio-educational activities recommended by the Minors Section of the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office of Palma de Mallorca.

The minor has also been ordered to pay a total of €7,001, with €4,000 for the racist insults and €3,001 for throwing objects. Furthermore, the minor will be prohibited from entering any La Liga or RFEF stadiums for one year.
