A versatile German defender is poised to join the Magpies.
Malick Thiaw
Malick Thiaw is arriving at Newcastle this Monday to undergo his medical, the final step in a transfer worth close to £35 million, fees included. The German player pushed for the move despite reluctance from the Milan side.
The German defender, a product of Schalke 04's academy, is set to take the next step in his career after two solid seasons in Serie A. Newcastle, on the hunt for defensive reinforcements, accelerated negotiations with Milan in recent days. Talks between Newcastle and AC Milan progressed swiftly after an initial €30 million bid was tabled last week, which the Rossoneri deemed insufficient.
It’s worth noting that on AC Milan’s side, manager Massimiliano Allegri wanted to keep the player, even though Thiaw had lost his starting spot last season. After the player gave his approval to join the Premier League, Newcastle returned with an improved offer of £35 million, including bonuses. This final proposal was ultimately accepted. The two clubs have reached an agreement for the transfer of the 24-year-old. Malick Thiaw is already in England to finalise his move.
